Marwa El Decken (Jewelry Making & Design Instructor)

Egypt

Marwa El Decken is an avid artist who has discovered her passion for arts & crafts at an early stage. She started by tailor making costumes & outfits for her toys and accessorizing them with beads & threads. Naturally, she enrolled in the Faculty of Fine Arts, majoring in Graphic Design with a concentration in Book Illustration and Cartoon Animation.

Shortly after graduation she started freelancing as a graphic designer as well as displaying curiosity about community work and education which led her to work as an awareness specialist and trainer in different projects and foundations in Egypt and Qatar

Being an artsy at heart, Marwa started exploring jewelry making and studied basic & advanced Jewelry making in Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar. She moved back to Cairo, Egypt to join the Design Studio by Azza Fahmy (DSAF) in year 2017 to develop further her metalsmithing and designing skills

During her studies at DSAF, Marwa combined her skills in training and jewelry by assisting in various jewelry and design courses, she worked as an Assistant for various local and international professors.

Marwa has also participated in numerous national and international exhibitions such as Legnica Jewelry Festival SILVER in Poland and Athens Jewelry Week. Currently living in Cairo, she is part of DSAF faculty acting as one of the main teachers for various programs locally & regionally with a concentration in jewelry making techniques, concept & design

Her jewelry reflects a modern minimalistic design with high attention to details and technicalities. The designs combine the symmetry of geometric lines and construction influences, with a finely tuned and delicate yet powerful aesthetic. Marwa’s blend of authenticity, culture and jewelry is an elaborate story that continues to inspire and most importantly break barriers to the commonly associated expectations for jewelry
